£10,000 donated in Aid of The Elizabeth Foundation Appeal

23 April 2008

Almost 50 staff from Groupama Insurances in Portsmouth took part in a day of cycling, running and sailing in and around the town on Saturday 19th April. The challenging 'triathlon with a twist' had been organised to support local charity, The Elizabeth Foundation, which works with pre-school deaf children. The £10,000 raised to date will go towards the Raise the Roof Appeal to pay for a new facility at The Elizabeth Foundation's Hampshire Family Centre.

The Groupama triathlon included a gruelling 10 mile cycle route, a 5 mile run and then the teams had to sail rather than swim the last leg from Gunwharf Quays - out around the fort - and to the finish back at Port Solent. The challenging race resulted in Roy Sampson, Finance Director from Groupama Insurances winning first place among the men and Hazel Hallam, Claimline Assistant was the first woman.

"We are really proud of everyone who took part in the challenge and want to extend our congratulations to the winners, they really did themselves proud," said Nicola Browell who manages the Groupama Claims Centre in Port Solent. "The Elizabeth Foundation was selected by staff as their chosen charity for the event based on first-hand experience of their wonderful work. So it was great to see the team not only enjoying themselves but putting in so much effort too!”

Alison Robinson, Fundraising Manager of The Elizabeth Foundation adds: "We were delighted when Groupama Insurances chose to support the Elizabeth Foundation with such a stretching challenge and we are overwhelmed with the amount raised. £10,000 will go a long way towards our building work for this fantastic new facility and we want to extend our gratitude to the teams for their hard work and all those who so generously sponsored them”.
